The 16th Annual Horror and Fantasy Film Festival and Encounter with Comics in San Sebastian, Spain is coming up at the end of this week (it runs from October 29th-November 5th) – it’s been a very well known horror/SF movie fest on the European circuit for some time and, as the title indicates, it also caters to comics readers too. I’ve just heard that writer and artist Arthur Suydam will not only be attending but will be a guest of honour (which in convention parlance means you will have even more people annoying you at the bar than other delegates). His colleagues on his web site sent us the following:
“Arthur Suydam (pictured here at Dragoncon) has just been named Artist Guest of Honour at the upcoming 16th Annual Horror and Fantasy Film Festival and Encounter with Comics in San Sebastian, Spain.
This weeklong festival will kick off with press conferences and interviews with Mr. Suydam, whose artwork will be featured as the official convention poster and program book and will be on display throughout the city for the entire week.
In addition, Arthur will be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Convention to honour his three decades of innovative creations—which include Cholly and Flytrap, Mudwogs, Libby, When Giants Walk the Earth, Skin Deep and much more. Because of the importance of this award, the San Sebastian festival will be displaying over 100 pieces of original Arthur Suydam artwork in a special exhibition—much of this artwork has never before been on public display, truly making this a memorable event.”
This is also very nice timing since Image have his new collection, The Art of the Barbarian coming out this December in hardcover, co-published with Heavy Metal and Eva Ink – and even better it is signed and numbered.
