It’s been hard to miss me enthusing about this year’s bumper crop of nominations in this year’s Arthur C Clarke and BSFA awards. We have all of the nominees listed on our webstore and you can check out mini-reviews of each title there. And for those of you who still like to pick up a recommended book for a good browse, Kevin has just sent me details of a number of our branches who are also taking part in backing these prestigious awards.
The Forbidden Planet International stores in Glasgow, Manchester, Hanley, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Dublin, Nottingham, Derby and Wolverhampton (hi, guys!) are all offering you the chance to browse the nominees for the BSFA and the Arthur C Clarke awards (you can use the store locator on our web site here for address details).
The diversity and quality of this year’s shortlist entries is fabulous – they really do represent some of the finest SF&F literature of the last year and it is a broad school, covering time travelling romance to near-future dystopia, taking in politics, space-opera, historical epics and fascinating, looping narrative structures. The mainstream bookstores may not support these important awards, but we know good SF&F when we read it and we’re delighted to help raise the profile of these titles and share them with you.
The FPI stores above are also offering book-buyers a tidy 25% off all of the shortlist nominees, making this the perfect time to get down to our stores and have a good book browse. These branches all stock a good range of SF&F titles from the UK and imported novels, so you may find you’re going to be there for a while! Our staff will be happy to talk to you about recommendations or to help you find something , so don’t be afraid to ask and don’t forget to check the blog regularly for author news and recommendations of excellent new SF.
