General

The time is drawing near for the second issue of our FPI magazine to hit the shelves (only a week or two to go!), so it’s over to FPI’s editor Matt Camp for a sneak peek at some of the goodies we have coming up for you in the second issue:

“The second issue will be a King Kong special, with a great cover and a feature focusing on some of the exciting items we will be offering to go along with Kong. We interview the head honcho at Universal Studio’s merchandising arm, plus a retrospective of the King Kong movies and an exclusive first-look at the new video game based on the movie.

Issue 2 also contains a Hex special, very timely since this supernatural Brit show has only just returned to Sky One’s screens. I’m very happy with this as it is a pretty cool exclusive actually, with a profile of the series, an interview with the producer and interviews with two of the key actresses including the fabulous Jemima (As If) Rooper. (any excuse for pictures of lovely actresses!)

For video game freaks, the three big features are a special on Fable: The Lost Chapters, a retrospective on the acclaimed and rare video game Ico and a very rare, exclusive interview with Rodney Greenblat, the New York-based artist that created Parappa the Rapper.

FPI #2 also welcomes the acclaimed Scottish SF author Ken Macleod who writes a feature about the role of politics within science fiction, exclusively for FPI. Ken’s latest novel, Learning the World, which details a very unusual take on First Contact (from the perspective of both sides), was recently published and is one of the SF Book Picks we recommended strongly in the first FPI issue.

While for Star Wars fans, there is an exclusive interview with the ‘UK Garrison’ – an army of dedicated Storm Troopers who strut their funky armoured stuff at Star Wars premieres and events.

There is a special report on the UK Cosplay scene, a low-down on the growing interest in cult statues and we present the first article from our new regular F/X and the City columnist, offering a distinctly female eye on the sci-fi and fantasy scene.”

And my own humble contributions will be in there too in the shape of the Book Picks of some of the best new SF&F novels coming out over the next quarter (Some great titles to read on those long, dark winter nights) and another instalment of the FPI Library, highlighting six must-have novels that should be on your shelves – this time round we’re looking at humour in SF, so insure your funny bones.

Of course there is a lot more in there and not forgetting our world-famous catalogue of treasures, from action figures to replicas, T-shirts to phasers, graphic novels to the latest video games and lots of other delights you will want to order from our friendly Sales team, so stay tuned for more.

Rumours that the FPI editor Matt was spotted hanging off the top of the Lloyd’s building in a gorilla suit to ‘research’ the Kong issue are, sadly, so far unsubstantiated.
