As you’ve probably noticed we’ve been making some serious changes in our main website recently; a lot of effort has gone in from the FPI online and the sales team into not only the site but expanding the features and offers available. As part of that, we are now about to offer free hosting on our new servers to creative folks in the SF&F novels and comics industry – the man in charge of our online operations (and huge comics fan himself) Kenny Penman explains:
Free webspace – what do they mean?
Forbidden Planet has always been a business built on and run by fans of comics and sci-fi, and we thought it was time to give something back to the creative community. If you are a creative person in either of these fields – comics writers, artists, sci-fi novel or short story writers and you have had any work published in a professional capacity we are willing within some limits (see below) to host your website for free on our servers. We also will look at unpublished comics artists although those are on a case by case basis. So no more having to worry about paying those quarterly or annual charges ever again.
Seems to good to be true we know but this is a largely philanthropic excercise the only commercial aspect is that we ask you to include our webstore as a link from where visitors to your store can go and buy your work. We can supply banners if you like or you can just include us in your links lists. Everyone who buys something by clicking thru your site will also reward you thru our affiliates scheme so you could reap rewards in two ways. Other than that you just go on running your site as you always have but never have to worry about the hosting fees again. We won’t ask for any input at all into what you are doing online – just get on with it as before. And you will have extra easy use benefits like a FREE control panel with one-click access to a plethora of free programs. Install your own forum, guestbook and even a gallery easily!
We also will reciprocate by adding a link to your site from our webstore meaning that over 100,000 (and rising) visitors a month will have a new point of access to keep up with what you are up to. The only restrictions we have is that your site should not exceed on your site – most of you should be easily within this.
So if you would like to move your site contact us to enrole in the scheme, which will start actual hosting in January, via this email link – and let us reward your creativity with something for (almost) nothing. If you find trouble keeping your site up to date we can also offer some very cheap services for updating news for you or even getting a site established if you have never gotten round to it yet. Those are negotiable individually.
