General

I’ve just heard from Robbie Fraser, the writer/director of the fantasy-themed indy movie from Scotland, Gamerz, which was shown at Worldon and has been doing a circuit on some other releases, notably through Cineworld (the people who now own UGC cinemas). Robbie told us:

“We have had a very warm response to the film both from within and outside the fan community, and we’re now honoured to have been nominated for the BAFTA Scotland / Cineworld Audience Award. The Award is decided by text vote, and, while we are at the disadvantage of not having had a general release yet (fingers crossed it will happen early next year), the reaction we’ve had suggests that if we can get the word out to people who may have seen the film, we may be in with a shout, even against the big boys of the Scottish film jungle.”

So if you are one of the people who caught Gamerz on its limited run at the cinemas or at this year’s Worldcon in Glasgow, their team could really use your help in getting the vote out before the deadline on the 7th of this month – it does cost a small amount to send the text, but if you enjoyed the film think of it as supporting local (and independent) talent. According to Robbie, it is pretty easy to register your vote:

“The system is simple: anyone who wishes to support our film texts ‘FILM GAMERZ’ to 81800 (UK and European mobiles only). The texts cost 25p over the odds (which is not too much of a sting, I hope!). The competition closes on November 7.”

Best of luck to Robbie and his cast and crew; you can check out the impressive site for Gamerz here – naturally we’ll let you know if and when Gamerz secures a more general release .
