Since the Most Excellent Dan Clowes, creator of (among others) Ghost World is being featured in today’s Guardian newspaper (which reports he is working on a movie adaptation of Art School Confidential) this would seem to be an opportune moment to let you all know that his latest collection is now in stock.
Ice Haven is a little microcosm, full of different characters in the unfortunately named town (meant, we are told by one character, a would-be poet, to make us think of winter wonderlands but instead it drives people off by suggesting barren, freezing conditions), ranging from kids, through love-struck teens to dysfunctional adults – and not forgetting a blue rabbit, fresh from a stay in the grey-bar hotel.

As ever with Clowes’ material there is a satisfying mixture of the ordinary, everyday thoughts and feelings anyone can identify with alongside the somewhat odder (which somehow many of us can still identify with!). It’s a very neat, little hardback edition from Cape and you really do need to take a look.
