The first new Asterix album in many years has been hitting the shelves: Asterix and the Falling Sky. And apparently our diminutive hero has a little political edge to him this time round, with Uderzo taking some potshots at cultural imperialism and the dilution of French culture from outside sources.
So we have our plucky Gauls dealing with aliens in superhero-like attire from the planet Tadsylwine (an anagram of Walt Disney) seeking the magic potion on the orders of their sage, Hubs (a Bush anagram) while another bunch of aliens, the Nagmas (an anagram of Manga) also decide that they want in on the act.
This first new album in years had a publication of eight million copies simultaneously around the world in thirteen languages and across some twenty-seven countries. Some characters never go out of style.
