Rare Books News reports a story from the Asbury Park Press on producer Michael Uslan. In addition to being the producer behind the Batman movies – including the exciting Batman Begins due this summer – and Constantine, Uslan, a New Jersey native, is a keen comics collector and has been since his youth.

His collection reached around the 50,000 mark at one point, but he has now generously donated some 35,000 of those precious collectable titles to Indiana University’s rare book collection. Very nice to see such generosity and to see academia taking the comics genre seriously. Uslan is to be honoured at the Garden State Film Festival this weekend with the Independent Spirit award.

In related news Uslan is involved in the movie adaptation of the late Will Eisner’s The Spirit – comics superstar Jeph Loeb has been confirmed as the writer.
