Comics and cartoons

Our good chums over at the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic have been kind enough to supply us with Rebellion’s latest release schedule. It’s fuller than the League of Fatties’ meeting room on chocolate cake night, replete with the finest tales from 2000 AD comic and we have some excellent graphic novels for you going right up to April 2006.

No Rebellion schedule would be complete without old Stoney Face himself, Judge Dredd, the iron man of Mega City One law. There are several cool Dredd titles coming up – just check out that cool Carlos Ezquerra artwork on Brothers of Blood – but most excitingly there is Judge Dredd: the Complete Case Files. Rebellion are planning to build a series of the whole of Britain’s top comic character, taking all of his tales in chronological order. The first volume is due in December, with the second in February and a third volume next April, with more to follow – a perfect way for new or old readers to build a Dredd library.

Dan Abnett and Mark Harrison’s take on Durham Red, our favourite mutant vampire is coming in April; I love Mark’s artwork for Durham Red, it shows her mix of deadly violence and sheer sexiness perfectly. A totally different style of story and artwork comes in the shape of a welcome return visit from one of my personal favourite 2000 AD character, Sam Slade, robo-hunter in December; Sam is hired by the British government but since he arrives in the middle of national Song Week you just know things won’t go smoothly… Holy Joe Smith…

There are also return visits from the genetic infantryman, Rogue Trooper, who gives the phrase ‘feeling blue’ a whole new meaning as he trudges over the ruins of Nu Earth with his only companions his dead comrades, their memories stored in biochips in his equipment. Gordon Rennie takes us into the mystical with Caballistics, the former Department Q set up to fight the Nazi occult menace while Alan Moore and Alan Davis’ loveably demented D.R. and Quinch are back by popular demand (and if you don’t like it you can eat plutonium death, you disgusting alien weirdoes!).

The rest of the list is just as diverse, from the super-gangster, Mafia-esque The Family, weird pirates in Red Seas and sea demons battling warp-spasming Celtic warriors with the one and only Slaine; when he tells you to ‘kiss his axe’ you’re in serious trouble. The best of British.
