There is a very cool article on the website for the San Francisco Bay Guardian by Heather Smith on the Bay area’s influential independent comix scene, past and present. It takes in artists from the seminal 60s scene like Crumb to newer creators like Dan Clowes and Laurenn McGubbin of Image Comics. Dez Skinn wrote a very good book on the underground comix scene, which also covers the British side of things, a while back and Fantagraphics has a new book called Rebel Visions on the comix scene due early in 2006.
