Sandy Auden reports in the Alien Online that the far-too-clever-and-gifted author Adam Roberts has turned in the manuscript for the Palgrave Critical History of SF to Macmillan Publishers (Palgrave being Macmillan’s academic imprint). According to the article the book will be comprehensive and feature information on modern-era material (in many media) and also many pre-19th century works of SF, which Roberts cheerfully admits he knew little of before delving into his five-odd years of research and will include entries such as the first ‘robot’ story written in 1638. Soundslike a worthy companion on the bookshelves to the Encyclopedia of SF and no doubt we’ll be bringing it to your attention when we hear more.
