General

The Comics Journal – or TCJ to those in the know – has been produced by the Fantagraphics team (home to much Crumb and Los Bros Hernandez among many others) under the editorship of Gary Groth since 1976. Over the years TCJ has become pretty indispensable to serious comics fans – it has a mixture of reviews and news as you may expect, but it offers a lot more.

For starters those reviews are often long and have some fascinating, in-depth analysis and when it comes to news features or columns the TCJ team aren’t afraid to hurt someone’s feelings – this hasn’t stopped them garnering a number of awards however and most fans (myself included) tend to respect them for their honesty; you know you’re going to get a proper look at comics material which won’t be honey-coated to please publishers or creators (it also means if they say something is really good then you know it is really good).

Well, over on our shiny new site (with its seasonal makeover by my colleagues – dig those Christmas lights, guys!) we have an incredibly generous offer. TCJ costs £6.50 per issue; we are offering readers a chance to take out a three-issue subscription (no long-term ties, isn’t that nice?) for £10.65 – that’s £3.55 per issue (including the postage), a 45% discount.

Why? Well, TCJ is written by people who love the medium of comics and sequential art; they want to discuss and share that passion – which is pretty much what we like doing (hey, we read these and love them too). If you are a serious comics fans then you should check out The Comics Journal – it covers from Indy comics through Manga right up to the mainstream Marvel or DC titles – and with this offer you don’t have any excuses not to. The latest issue (#272) features an interview and cover from our own Brit cartoonist (famous for his Guardian work) Steve Bell.
