River of Gods is, of course, also on the shortlist of Arthur C Clarke nominees and this weekend was announced as a candidate for the Hugo awards as well, so Ian McDonald has a real chance of not only scoring the two top SF literary awards in the UK but perhaps even the hat-trick.
