Cheryl over on Emerald City reports that Jim Kelly has recorded some of his own short stories and can be heard reading them back in his own dulcet tones via free downloads (although if you would care to make a donation it is more than welcome). Sounds (sorry, very bad pun) like a great idea to me. The stories on offer are varied and have appeared in some very well-regarded journals such as Asimov’s Science Fiction, which is a fine endorsement in my book.
In not-so-good news Emerald City also noted that Dave Langford’s Ansible has lost its hosting at Glasgow University due to a possible legal threat from an ‘un-named American’. Luckily you can still access the Ansible via the mirror site. Obviously I don’t know the ins and outs of this but it is a shame Glasgow U dropped hosting so swiftly (I thought our universities were supposed to be bastions of the freedom of speech and the exchange of ideas? Did I miss a meeting, when did that change?). Dave is one of the pillars of the SF community and a gentleman to boot; I’m sure a lot of us in the SF community will want to offer him support at this trying time.
