David Tennant, who appeared on BBC Breakfast Time this morning, has been talking to the BBC website about taking on the mantle of the nation’s favourite Time Lord, the Doctor Who Christmas Special and the new season for 2006 which will feature the return of the Cybermen (long before the Borg assimilated anyone kids here had the Cybermen to hide from behind the sofa).
Tennant seems very enthused about the role, but then again, like many of us similar in age to Tennant he grew up watching the original series, a British TV institution. He was delighted to receive good luck cards from two previous Doctors, Peter Davidson and Tom Baker.
“It is a thrill to be part of it,” he told the BBC News website. “I keep thinking ‘It isn’t real is it?’. It has been very curious to sit watching the titles roll with my name on them.”
The Christmas Special will offer us our first taste of the new Doctor, still recovering from the trauma of regeneration and having to help out the Prime Minister with an alien invasion and killer robot Santas. Can’t wait! A trailer is available on the official BBC site.
