Author Jeff VanderMeer has posted an editorial on his blog he wrote regarding the creation of fictional realms and lands and their relation to fictional tales set in real cities (unless a fictional ‘real’ setting therefore becomes imaginary to a certain extent, but that’s another idea…) and world-building in fantasies. As the creator of Ambergris, Jeff is extremely well suited to this task and anyone who has read City of Saints and Madmen (one of the best books so far in a year which is shaping up to have some terrific reads in it) will enjoy it.
