The name is…?

General

Bond, James Bond. Well, at least that is the character’s name but the name of the next actor to play Fleming’s immortal superspy remains a secret even a double-O agent would have trouble finding out. Although the movie makers have been in the press this week discussing the new Bond film they had to admit they still didn’t have a star (and also avoided talking about the less than graceful way they terminated Pierce Brosnan’s term as Bond, which saw a rebirth of the series).

According to the BBC an announcement is due on Friday, when the identity of the next Bond will be revealed, Bookies and fans alike have been speculating with many a name thrown into the ring, but Daniel Craig, star of Layer Cake, Sylvia and Road to Perdition is the favourite. The gifted Paul Haggis is writing the script (due to start shooting in January); Haggis was behind the recent (and in my mind excellent) Crash, as well as scripting Million Dollar Baby among others and the delightfully quirky TV series Due South (the one with the Canadian Mountie in Chicago, with his deaf wolf and the ghost of his father).
