Paramount, Dreamworks and Hasbro made a joint announcement recently to confirm not only that the live-action Transformers movie is indeed going into production but that is was scheduled for a July 4th 2006 release. Since the Independence Day opening weekend is one of the biggest slots in the US summer movie calendar this could be seen as a vote of confidence in the picture having ‘legs’ as they say in Tinseltown.
The movie is being helmed by Michael Bay from a script by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, with Steven Spielberg as an executive producer – no stars named as of yet, but we’ll keep our ears open. Also on the Transformers front our chums at Titan (the publisher, not the moon where bad Judges go) reminded us that this year marks the twentieth anniversary of the series, which they are marking with the release of Way of the Warrior, Fallen Star and Earthforce.
All together now – “Transfomers, robots in disguise…”
