My colleague Kevin passed details on to me of the Trek United campaign, which some of you may already be aware of. Niall Mullins, the Irish national Co-ordinator for Trek United sent us information, links and banners for the campaign which aims to persuade Paramount to reverse their decision not only to cancel Enterprise (which ironically is hitting its stride this season, in my humble opinion – well done to Manny Coto and the crew) but to forego having any new Trek for the first time in years.
And the Trek United folks are putting their money where their mouths and other speech processing units are – they’re actively campaigning to raise funds towards the production of a new series themselves to show Paramount that the fans are willing to invest their own money in their beloved franchise – now that’s serious dedication. I don’t know if they will succeed, but history shows us that an unprecedented fan campaign many years ago once succeeded in returning Trek to our screens.

Trek has always influenced many scientists (many say they chose their careers because of that influence and inspiration to create a better world) and this has been reflected by support from people like Stephen Hawking (who famously had a cameo on The Next Generation, playing cards with Data, Einstein and Newton). Three anonymous benefactors have stepped forwards from the ranks of the space flight engineering community and pledged an astonishing three million dollars towards a new season of Enterprise.
It will surprise no-one to know that many of us at FPI are lifelong Star Trek fans – yes, we do watch the same DVDs and collect the same merchandise that we offer to you, we love them –and we’re happy to add our voice to this incredible campaign by fans worldwide and wish them every success. We will naturally blog on any new developments as we become aware of them and you can visit the Trek United website for updates and to download banners for your own websites and blogs. Peace and long life.
