This seems to be a day for news of upcoming vampire movies: Movieweb (via SF Crowsnest) has a picture of Milla Jojovich (Fifth Element and Resident Evil) in a movie version of the critically-acclaimed Channel 4 UK series Ultraviolet. Starring Jack Davenport and Susanah Harker amongst others, the series was incredibly cool, taking a covert arm of British Intelligence who hunt vampires and threw in a possible world-wide conspiracy with much moral ambiguity. It was cool, stylish, original and very thought-provoking (it also, famously, never mentioned the word ‘vampire’).

I know little about the movie version (due for some time in 2006) other than the rumours that Jojovich is playing (again) a gun-totin’ action heroine called Ultraviolet who is caught in the middle of a struggle between humans and the mutated vampire race; sounds a little like the X-Men to me with bloodsuckers instead of mutants and certainly doesn’t sound like it has much in common with the fascinating TV series other than the title.
