General

The IDW graphic novels for December are now live on the Pre-orders section. Among them is an adaptation of the forthcoming movie Underworld Evolution, a sequel to the Kate Beckinsale and Bill Nighy vampire film, Underworld. I enjoyed the original in a basic way but considered it to be very much style over substance – very glossy, cool look to the film but not much there for the serious vamp fan to sink his fangs into, but still a bit of Gothic fun.

Obviously a lot of people enjoyed it even more because it did very well at the box office, hence the sequel due early next year, with Kate Beckinsale once more donning the very tight leather pants as the vampire Selene (steady now, boys) and also a return from Bill Nighy, despite his character suffering the slight handicap of death first time round! Michael, the innocent dragged into the werewolf versus vampire battle in the first film, will also return as a lycan/vampire crossbreed.

The talented Kris Oprisko is adapting the graphic novel version directly from the original script for IDW, while we are promised ‘eye-popping’ artwork from Antonio Vasquez. The film is due from Sony Pictures early in 2006 (a nice vampire flick for the long, dark winter nights) while IDW’s adaptation is due for publication this December. Judging from the healthy sales of the novel adaptation of the first film there will be a good demand for this.
