Since David Cronenberg’s movie adaptation of John Wagner and Vince Locke’s A History of Violence has just hit the cinema screens it seems a good point to remind readers that DC has issued a brand-new edition of the graphic novel, which has been unavailable for some time. Wagner is one of the Great British Comics Writers (would 2000AD have happened without him and if it had would it have been half as good?) and it is good to see this meditation on the nature of cyclical violence back in print. The Cronenberg film with Viggo Mortensen is pretty interesting too – like the book it touches on violence and how violence touches upon people and how once fuelled it has a way of continuing and yet is far from gratuitous. Damned good stuff.
