The Fire Brigade in Bristol was called to a serious fire in a warehouse this morning – a warehouse which just happened to contain most of Aardman Animations props and scenery. One spokesperson said that the company’s entire history had gone up in smoke, from Morph through Creature Comforts to Chicken Run and, of course, the Oscar-winning Wallace and Gromit.
As Nick Park observed though, it was a dreadful event for the company, especially as they should be celebrating box-office success with their new W&G movie, but compared to other recent disasters it was “not a big deal.” Bless him for thinking that way, but it must still be a terrible shock to see so many years of hard work gone so quickly. I wonder if the Wenslydale Cheese Company will have a moment’s silence in memory?
