The Beeb has confirmed the rumours of the last couple of week concerning the rather hasty replacement required for Chris Eccleston’s new Doctor – David Tennant will be the next actor to take on the mantle of the country’s favourite Time Lord.
The Scottish actor (who comes from West Lothian, not far from where I’m writing this blog in sunny Edinburgh) is, like Eccleston, an artist who has worked with new Who supreme Russell T Davies (in the current Casanova update) and was also involved in the BBC’s live re-enactment of the 1950s classic the Quatermass Experiment. His SF credentials also include a role in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

It is a bit of a wrench for fans to adjust to a new Doctor so soon into a long-anticipated return for their favourite show, but Tennant comes with impeccable acting credentials, including an Olivier nomination. And let’s face it, after the quality of the new show I think we can afford to trust in Russell T Davies’ judgement, can’t we? Good luck to Tennant and the new Who cast and crew.
