Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper are both featured on the just-published longlist for the honours at the National Television Awards, says the BB of C. The longlist is normally reduced to the final shortlist by a public vote ahead of the actual awards ceremony in October. That pre-eminent genre of Brit TV, the soap opera, is frequently dominant in many of the main categories, so it will be interesting to see if either actor makes it through.
Given the fact the new Doctor Who often took more than 40% of the viewing audience for its time slot it must be in with a good chance. Win or lose, the mere fact that the two leads have both been nominated for a show resurrected after 16 years is a pretty good sign of both the media and the audience’s interest and appreciation of the revitalised show.
And on Who-related news I have to bring your attention to this nifty sonic screwdriver from the new show. Naturally it has both sound and light action, but it also includes an invisible ink pen and a UV light to reveal them with! I want one now!
