Who Christmas

Film, TV and radio, General

BBC Breakfast news screened a brief clip from the Doctor Who Christmas Special episode this morning. The scene showed Rose’s mother and her on-off boyfriend Micky both stopping in their tracks as they hear a familiar sound (described in almost every Terrence Dicks’ Doctor Who novelistion in the old Target books as a ‘wheezing, groaning sound’). Both rush out looking to see where the TARDIS materialises and instead are forced to duck for cover as it appears twenty feet up in the air before careening into various buildings and finally hitting the ground. A clearly confused new Doctor steps out, still in the old Eccleston costume – obviously the new show is sticking with the old on the score of regenerations being a somewhat disturbing time for a Time Lord.

The show also announced that Russell T Davies and David Tennant will be on BBC Breakfast News next Wednesday to discuss the Christmas special and the new season due next year. According to the presenters this will be Tennant’s first proper on-screen interview since assuming the mantle of the new Doctor.
