A while back I blogged about some of the Israeli cartoonists from Dimona who decided to pre-empt the Iranian newspapers who had run a Holocaust cartoon competition in response to the Danish cartoons of the Prophet. I’m afraid I missed hearing the result being announced, but better late than never here’s a link to a [...]

Cheryl reports on Emerald City of a rather nice 40th anniversary celebration for Star Trek. The original pilot was shown some 40 years ago at Worldcon (I didn’t know that) and now the show will be returning to Worldcon, along with a number of guests including Marina Sirtis and Walter Koening.

The Globe and Mail has a good interview with our favourite comics curmudgeon Harvey Pekar as he tours to support the publication of his new (a non American Splendor collection, despite the cover) graphic novel Ego & Hubris: the Michael Malice Story.

Scott at Omnibucket points me in the direction of their site where you can check out a very limited run of a horror anthology entitled Brainchild. It is a delightfully macabre illustrated collection of short zombie stories, which looks like the perfect thing to read as you snack on fresh brains… Mmmm, brains… The site [...]

ICV2 picks up on a story from Now Playing Magazine who reported that the godfather of cyberpunk, William Gibson, has one of his books, Idoru, set to be adapted into an anime film by Alex Steyermark. With the focus on a heavily multimedia Tokyo and J-pop idols it seems like a perfect book to anime [...]

The (in my opinion) excellent new Battlestar Galactica series is to give birth to a spin-off called Caprica, according to SciFi Wire. The producers pitched the idea to sponsors this week; the show would be set 50 years before the current show when the Colonies were at peace. It would take place at the time [...]

Cheryl on Emerald City had an early scoop, now confirmed on Locus – that towering talent (in both the physical and literary senses) Geoff Ryman has followed his success with the Tiptree and the more recent BSFA awards by scooping the coveted Arthur C Clarke award for Air. Wow, well done, Geoff, that is one [...]

Some pictures have been emerging of the filming in Cleveland (Harv Pekar country) for Spider-Man 3, including shots of a man in the Spidey suit (thought to be a stuntman) ‘surfing’ the street on a ripped off door behind a runaway vehicle.

The Hollywood Reporter carries news that the SciFi Channel is to adapt Erich Von Daniken’s book (if that isn’t too grandiose a title for it) Chariots of the God, into one of their six hour mini-series. Von Daniken was very famous indays gone past for his wild books explaining how we were all descended from [...]

The curtain should be coming down towards the end of today on our standalone graphic novels site. With the much more flexible and dynamic new FPI webstore now having every graphic novel listed there too the time has finally come to wind down the GN site and move everything to the new home. It won’t [...]
