Interviews

Via the good offices of Journalista comes a link to an interview with Owly creator Andy Runton in Connect Savannah, where he will be a guest at the Savannah Children’s Book Festival, which I know is going to especially please one of the FPI crew who absolutely adores the Owly books (and quite right too!).

Owly is, without doubt, a wonderful book (of series of books). It’s also exactly the sort of thing that should be proudly on display in every single comic shop as an example of how good comics for all ages do still exist.
I only really seriously started thinking about this a few years ago when looking for books for my (then) 3 year old daughter. I wanted to share my love of comics with her and get her to accept comics as a natural part of reading.
It’s really, really difficult to find anything suitable –
The two Gaiman / McKean books (Goldfish & Wolves in the Walls – but both of these are more traditional children’s books.
    Jill Thompson’s Little Endless Storybook
    Jill Thompson’s Scary Godmother series
    & Owly.
