The Saturday edition of the Glasgow-based Herald has a brief video report (apparently archived if you are checking this later in the week) on the bewildering array of festivals in Edinburgh (which I’m having fun running round myself at the moment, taking a few moments for a quick blog post). Today’s video report features one Iain Banks talking, albeit it for all too brief a time, at the Book Festival and mentioning his next work which should be due around spring of next year. Tellingly the arts presenter on the video introduced Iain as a writer most would know for books like the Wasp Factory and, surprise, surprise neglecting to mention his SF work. Ho hum. Although naturally we’re all big fans of Iain’s ‘mainstream’ novels (if you can stretch the term mainstream to cover the Wasp Factory?!?!) too, so we’ll let it slide. Rumours that Iain was also dressed up to audition for a role as the new ‘man from Del Monte’ in his white suit are unconfirmed.
Today’s Herald also carried a lengthy article about Scottish comics guru Mark Millar, discussing the movie adaptation of his Wanted series, which now has James McAvoy (from the Chronicles of Narnia among others) signed up to star. Alas, after reading the rather good print piece I am unable to find a link to it online on the Herald‘s usually decent site.
