Fab and furry? Must be Gilbert Shelton

Okay, maybe it is a tiny cheat to claim this as relating to British Comics Month since Gilbert isn’t British. But he’s living here at the moment and the excellent gang at Brit publishers Knockabout publish his work (more about Knockabout later this month). Besides we love Gilbert’s work – we were pretty excited by the upcoming stop-motion animation movie which we blogged a few months back and now Down the Tubes has reported that Gilbert has drawn his first new Freak Brothers strip for many a year, the Unbearable Lightness of Being Fat Freddy.

And the even better news is that Gilbert has put it online for all to read, so do yourself a favour and go see how some wasted stoners can turn a day in the park watching balloons into an adventure via the skilled hands of one of the best comics artists around. You can also visit the site for Grass Roots Films who are creating the animated Freaks movie for more information and a short teaser clip. The Comics Journal have an interview with Gilbert available online here.
