Awards

Further news via Pádraig and Irish SF News: writer and publisher Colmán Ó Raghallaigh, of Cló Mhaigh Eo has won The Oireachtas na Gaeilge Irish Language Book of the Year Award for Young People for 2006 for his graphic novel An Táin. Pádraig describes the work as being a re-telling of the Táin Bó Cuailgne, a famous cattle raid on Ulster. Not often I get to post on a graphic novel in Gaelic, but since we have been talking a lot about European comics works here recently it seems quite appropriate to feature a work in one of the ancient tongues of these islands.

Cló Mhaigh Eo, based in County Mayo, publishes books in Irish for younger readers as well as a series of Irish graphic novels (books for younger readers is one of the areas where Irish – and indeed Scots Gaelic and BroadScots – language books seem to be doing well). You can read more details via Irish SF News here and also browse more details and (bilingual) pages on the Cló Mhaigh Eo site.
