The Most Excellent Jon Courtenay Grimwood has an interview online with the SFX crew available as his latest novel, End of the World Blues hits the shelves (as does the paperback version of his previous work, the brilliant noir-esque 9Tail Fox). Good news within the interview – Jon has agreed to do another set of novels featuring Raf. His current publisher Gollancz has also agreed to republish the first three Raf books in the Arabesk series, Pashazade, Effendi and Felaheen.
Those did come out when Simon and Schuster had the brilliant Earthlight SF imprint set up by John Jarrold, but since S&S blew that big-time a number of their SF authors, including JCG, have found new homes at better SF publishers. This is reminiscent of how Gollancz dealt with Chris Priest after S&S let his award-winning novel go out of print – they signed him up and reprinted his back catalogue to boot, which shows a real commitment to quality SF&F writing I think. Jon’s Arabesk novels are absolutely stunning and also offer a lot of crossover appeal to those who are not solid SF readers, being very Noir in places it will appeal to thriller and crime writers as well. I never miss out on Jon’s new books each year and can’t recommend them enough.
