Comics and cartoons

Paul Burke, who you may recall me mentioning here a few weeks back when he undertook to post the progress in developing Hardboiled Ed on his blog, tells me that there is quite a bit of new material for folks to have a look at now, including some nice art work showing the pencilled image then the work after inking:

Paul has also posted on the difficulty of trying to get small press comics in Britain seen by potential readers and the difficulty in trying to persuade comics stores to try their work. It’s a problem for many creators – I’ve known one major artist who has had to struggle recently to give his new work some profile in stores and to readers – but most especially for the independent press. I can understand the view of many comics stores too – there’s a limit to what they can take and how much they can display each month and a title which doesn’t sell could be taking space from one which might. But most folks in the trade are fans themselves and they want to see new talent coming through, although they need to balance this desire against their business brain. I’m glad we’ve been able to show some support here at FPI (you can still pick up the most recent FPI catalogue with 15 pages of indy comics work inside) while you can buy Night Warrior: Fury & Flame by Paul and his crew from the Raging Psycho Comics site or from the British Small Press section of our own webstore.
