Variety reports that the Oscar contenders for the special effects category have been announced, with seven movies competing for the small, gold statue, two of them comics-based films. Casino Royale, Eragon, Night at the Museum, X-Men: The Last Stand, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Poseidon and Superman Returns are all in the running, although the final shortlist will be cut down to just three nominations.
