Variety reports that Brett Ratner, director of X-Men: the Last Stand, is to direct the latest in Hollywood’s seemingly endless updated remakes of older films – this time the victim is The Boys From Brazil. The original late 70s movie starred Gregory Peck as Josef Mengele, the infamous Nazi ‘doctor’ who performed unspeakable ‘experiments’ in the concentration camps. Based on Ira Levin’s book (Levin was also responsible for Rosemary’s Baby among others) it tells of Mengele’s attempts to revive the Nazi cause by creating clones of Adolf Hitler. The makers of the new version claim to be sticking closely to the original while updating it to the modern day, but this is what most say when remaking older movies, so I imagine we will just have to wait and see.
