Silver Surfer, Weta style

According to UK movie mag Empire it is now official: Weta, the pioneering effects crew behind Lord of the Rings, will create the Silver Surfer for the Fantastic Four sequel. Doug Jones, a creature actor from the excellent Hellboy movie (and also in HB director Guilermo Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth) will be put through the motion-capture techniques Weta perfected using Andy Serkis for his astonishing Gollum performance. Silver Surfer on the big screen, rock on!!!!

In other recent movie news the movie version of top award-winning SF author Christopher Priest‘s novel The Prestige, which stars X-Men‘s Hugh Jackson, Ghost World‘s Scarlett Johansson and Batman Begin‘s Christian Bale and is directed by Batman helmer Chris Nolan, has a trailer up online. The award-winning novel revolves around the secrets and a duel between Victorian stage magicians which has repercussions long beyond that era – it is a quite excellent book and I’m hoping Chris Nolan will do it justice (since he also directed one of my favourite films, Memento, I have a fair bit of confidence in him). More information is also available at Christopher Priest’s own site.
