General, News

OK, this post isn’t exactly SF, but not so many years ago it would have been the stuff of science fiction: the BBC has a fascinating update on the venerable Voyager spacecraft (no, not the type with Janeway and Seven of Nine). It is now an unbelievable 28 years on and these tiny craft with (in computing terms) ancient technology are now an incredible11.5 billion kilometres from Earth – and they are still working and sending back valuable data as they approach the edge of our system and true interstellar space. No, maybe this isn’t an SF post per se, but its the kind of feat that was created by people who were inspired by SF.
