Rejoice my fellow lovers of mighty warrior princesses for the wonderful Xena is returning to comics! Details are almost non-existent at the moment, so we have no idea who the writer or artist will be, the format of the series or the likely publication, but Dynamite Entertainment has forged a deal with (the snappily named) Universal Studios Consumer Products Group to create a new range of adventures based around the warrior princess portrayed so perfectly by Lucy Lawless (okay, we’re fans – you can tell, can’t you?).
This seems to go along with other licensed properties Dynamite Entertainment has chosen to work lately, such as Battlestar Galactica, Highlander and the ever-green adventures of Ash in Army of Darkness titles. Not to be left out of the licensing game, Devil’s Due Publishing, home of G.I. Joe amongst others, have the first in a projected series of graphic novels based on cult TV hit Family Guy coming out this spring (another hurray!). They also have further collections based on the internationally bestselling Forgotten Realms novels (based around the game) by R.A. Salvatore, who must be up there with Margaret Weiss as one of the fan favourite creators from the games/novels sub-genre. Forgotten Realms Book II: Exile graphic novel is due this spring along with a new hardback version of Book I: Homeland.
