Today’s Zaman reports briefly on a cartoon exhibition organised by Turkey’s Umat Foundation and running in the Lütfi Kırdar Congress and Exhibition Center’s Haliç Hall in Istanbul, entitled Give Life a Chance. The theme of the exhibition is a plea for personal disarmament – the Umat site has some awful stories of accidental gun-related deaths in the country (and before anyone thinks, that’s sad, but it doesn’t affect people outside Turkey, you should bear in mind the tragic tale of two-year old Scottish toddler Alistair Grimason who was the innocent victim of an argument which ended in gunplay while visiting Turkey with his mother. Sadly such matters can reach out to engulf anyone). The exhibition, which runs until October 8th, features the winning cartoons from an annual competition run by the Umat Foundation to mark September 28th, which is Personal Disarmament Day.
