Dirk at Journalista has a link to some new art goodies being auctioned on Ebay to aid the Fantagraphics legal fund, including a painting of Louis by one of my favourite Scots-based creative teams, Metaphrog (I want it!) and a silkscreen print by Ralph Steadman. On which note Ralph cropped up over the holiday weekend on the BBC’s Seven Ages of Rock series, which covered ‘rock as art’ this week, with Pink Floyd featuring prominently, which meant they had a good reason to get Ralph on with his stunning artwork for The Wall – the Teacher still makes me think of a hideously mutated version of the teacher from Leo Baxendale’s classic Bash Street Kids while Ralph’s Fascist marching hammers have to be one of the simplest and most effective visual shorthands for authoritarianism in animation, with the timing and visual flair and deeply disturbing air of a Nuremberg march-past; as imagery it still fascinates and disturbs me in equal measure.
