Comics and cartoons

Over on Bear Alley Steve Holland has an interesting piece on the work of Audrey (AKA Charlotte) Fawley, who contributed a great deal of art to British girls’ comics such as Bunty and Tammy among others: “I did regular covers for Princess Tina as well as Tammy, including black & white illustrations for stories. Also a regular strip serial ‘Make-Believe Mandy’ for Jinty. I was asked to write a story around some full page illustrations for Teddy Bear. They were very nice people to work with. By contrast, D. C. Thomson frightened me rather.” (tip of the hat to Dirk at Journalista who noticed it first)

(one of Audrey/Charlotte’s rather groovy covers for Tammy – is it just me or does this girl look like a young version of Kari Byron from the Mythbusters?)

I enjoyed reading the article on my cover for Tammy comic- courtesy Steve Holland (Bear Alley). It’s terrific to find all these wonderful comic sites snd see what artists/creators are doing now.Steve- (great site!) mentioned you had seen his article on my work.Although I’ve always explored other avenues , comics past and present remain for me a fantastic genre.I enjoyed drawing all those strip serials week after week, hard work- but they seem to be living on….thanks to people like Dirk and Steve!!
