Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica seriously upped the stakes in an already gritty and gripping science fiction drama – we had the Cylon occupation of New Caprica, war crimes and even suicide bombings; pretty daring given the current events we’re all living with, but that has been one of the hallmarks of this series and one of the reasons why it has spread its appeal well beyond the traditional SF audience (although it doesn’t hurt having Grace Park, Tricia Helfer, Jamie Bamber and other hot leads too!). Events didn’t exactly calm down later in the third season either, with divisions caused by the way work was allocated, the furore over Baltar’s collaboration with the enemy and the death of a major character. Oh and we get Lucy Lawless too!
