Film, TV and radio

Linlithgow, famous for the beautiful palace which dominates the town, is set to celebrate the birth of a famous son of the town – a son not due to be born until the year 2222. Linlithgow, not too far from Edinburgh, has laid claim to being the birthplace of Commander Montgomery Scott, Chief Engineer of the USS Enterprise and is mounting the James Doohan Memorial Exhibition in the Annet House Museum to celebrate. The exhibition will officially open on August 3rd when the family of the late actor James Doohan who was beloved by millions for his portrayal of Scotty will arrive to unveil a plaque to the actor’s on-screen alter ego’s ‘birthplace’, while the museum will be exhibiting material from both Star Trek and from Doohan’s life before and after (presumably mentioning the fact that the Canadian actor took part in the D-Day landings). Several places have claimed to be the birthplace of the fictional starship engineer, but the Edinburgh Evening News reports that writer D.C. Fontana confirmed that Scotty’s birthplace was indeed in Linlithgow.
