My friend and noted comics enthusiast Padraig has posted up this comic convention flyer from his collection – just look at some of the names on that list, must have been a great con. Were any of our readers actually at this?

I was there, and all the subsequent UKCACs up until it moved to (I think) Birmingham. The booklet/guide that you were given on the door, which listed the panels, guests, etc., had two pages devoted to the names of all those of us who’d booked in advance.
I think it was at this one (or perhaps 86) that the first Watchman panel was held. There was an all night film show as well, which showed Zelig, 1984, Revenge of the Nerds, and so on (though I might have my years mixed up).
£7-50 seems incredibly cheap…

Readers of Fantasy Advertiser in ’85 will recall this flyer as a one-page ad. (The following year’s ad is just as impressive.) Didn’t go to the convention, but I’ve a couple of Comicast cassette tapes which feature interviews from, I think, this 1985 convention. Included is a slightly frazzled and stressed-out 30 minute talk with Alan Moore.
