San Francisco, hometown to the Emperor Joshua Norton, will play host to the Blast Off event in July at the Asian Art Museum. Blast Off is described as a “pop culture extravaganza” of Japanese manga, music and anime for the serious otaku and the newbie, adult and child alike, taking place on Saturday July 7th from 11am to 5pm, with cosplay, discussion panels with folks like Frederik Schodt and Gilles Poitras, Taiko drumming, a manga lounge, music and more, plus guided tours of the Tezuka: Marvel of Manga exhibition which celebrates the work of the great godfather of manga. Check out the official site for full details. (thanks to Jennifer Yin for the heads-up)
