Boldly going where other actors have been before…

Film, TV and radio

Rotten Tomatoes has a report via IGN about alleged casting for the JJ Abrams take on Star Trek XI, with Matt Damon, Adrien Brody and Gary Sinise supposedly in talks to play, respectively, the younger versions of James T Kirk, Mr Spock and Doctor McCoy. According to the article ‘studio sources’ confirmed they were in talks, but really I would take that with a big pinch of space salt myself since it was only recently there was doubt over the whole project, then doubt over how involved Abrams would be (scripting and directing? script only?) so nothing is carved in stone and ‘talks’ are far different from an actual contract. And, although the photos they run of the stars alongside the originals is fun I’m not convinced on a couple of points: first of all I’m not sure how any Trek fan will feel about someone else playing these roles (is that perhaps just a bad idea they should never have considered?) and secondly I thought the idea was to go back to the earliest days of their careers; these actors are a bit too close to the ages of the characters in the original series for that, surely? My Vulcan logic tells me there is a high probability that there will be a new exclusive scoop on the Trek movie in the near future.
