Newsarama carries news via Reuters that Gary Friedrich is to sue Marvel and Sony over the recent Ghost Rider movie, alleging that Stan Lee’s Magazine Management (later Marvel Entertainment) he agreed to publish through failed to register the work with the copyright office and so legally the rights reverted to him in 2001. Quite why he has waited until 2007 well after the film finally came out and Marvel has published various Ghost Rider books isn’t clear – genuine grievance, chance to gouge some big bucks, who knows? The lawyers will do well from it all no matter how it is perceived or resolved, of course.
