Books, Film, TV and radio

More Douglas Adams-related news following Saturday’s link to an old speech by him; British comedian Harry Enfield will play Doug’s Dirk Gently, Holistic Detective for BBC Radio 4 this autumn. The series will be produced by the fine man that is Dirk Maggs, who was behind the highly enjoyable recent adaptations of Doug’s later Hitchhiker’s novels for the BBC. Those gave me such a nostalgic rush, tuning in to Radio 4 and hearing the announcer saying “and now on Radio 4, the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy…”. If Dirk is involved I think we can pretty much assume the adaptation is in safe hands. (link via Big Dumb Object)

Does anyone know if they will be releasing this series on CD as well?

It doesn’t say, yet, Ben, but I’d be pretty surprised if it isn’t released relatively soon afterwards – BBC Audiobooks is usually pretty on the ball with radio shows for the CD market, so if the show begins transmission this autumn I’d guess we’ll hear about CDs not too long after.

BBC Audiobooks will be publishing Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency on 8th November on CD and as a download. The commercial release will have nearly an hour’s worth of extra, exclusive material.
