Craig Yoe shares an old ‘how to’ book on cartooning from 1941 with instructions on how to depcit your very own cartoon Fuhrer, or Tojo, or Stalin. As you might imagine for a wartime piece the descriptions of the Bad Guys (Stalin is still a Good Guy at this point, of course) are less than flattering, with Tojo’s facial description probably verging on the racist by today’s standards, but back then things were a bit different (what was I saying just the other week about comics doing their bit for the war effort?). An unusual little bit of wartime progaganda mixed up with a cartooning instruction manual.
