The Orbit blog reports that despite decent audiences and reviews the new TV show The Dresden Files, based on the novels of Jim Butcher, has not so far been confirmed for a second series. As regular readers will know I am utterly biased when it comes to the Dresden books – I think Jim Butcher’s novels are brilliant, giving every impression of looking like some old pulp novels and yet, while often playing to the pulp detective genre, they are extremely well written with some fantastic set-ups, a brilliant mix of the detective and the magical fantasy genres, fascinating characters and behind each book a back-story arc which is developing throughout, building both the characters and Harry’s world with each new book.

The TV series is a bit different, which is to be expected when someone transfers a book series and characters to a different medium, but I still enjoyed it and would happily watch more. Orbit has links to sites outlining just how fans can go about campaigning to try and make sure the producers know there is an audience out there that does want a second helping. The eighth in the book series, Proven Guilty, was published in the UK by Orbit just a few months back; I highly recommend the entire series.
